November Finale

Hello again Reader,

So, the first block of Book two is out! Poor Jaques, he’s been through a lot hasn’t he? He really isn’t suited for all this action. I hope I don’t put him into more situations that he’s not made for… I say as I laugh maniacally at the pain in store for poor old Jaques.

I kid.

But for real, the tone of the Limbo Chronologies is something I tried to set at the very beginning, which I hope I made clear. It’s a strange world where parchment paper and digital brains, candlelight and energy weapons exist at the same time. Things are terrible, but people go about as though everything is fine. Body and techno horrors abound, and people are more machine than man.

Grimdark, weird fiction, hard sci-fi and high fantasy have always been inspirations, but to stamp the Limbo Chronologies with the grimdark tag, or with any of the other aforementioned genres, is a stretch. It’s not depressing and oppressive enough, nor are there the hopeless elements that so oft mar the bleak worlds in say, Warhammer or Berserk. There is an element of absurdism that lightens the tone, even though the reality of Chronologies, if placed under a microscope, would seem kind of horrific. See: corpse-chassis or corpse-wax.

High fantasy, by which I mean the typical sorcery and sword, dragon and dungeon style of narrative, the Chronologies clearly are not. Hard sci-fi? Hardly. Elements of both in the story? ABSOLUTELY!

Weird fiction is something of an umbrella term, which, though I don’t believe the Chronologies to be thus, I recognize elements in them that clearly take from that specific genre. Cyclopean edifices long lost to history, strange beings peering through time, (huh?) and of course people with bodies with wonky proportions thanks to augmentation or other outside tampering. Then there are the Growers as a whole, of which you’ve only meat Jean. He’s a little too ordinary (on the surface), for you to comprehend just how strange most of those secretive people are. But more on that later.

So, I’ll call the Chronologies grimlight. Or maybe grimweird. I don’t know. Maybe it's weirdpunk or cyberweird. Genres are stupid. The only thing I do know is that I enjoy writing the story that has been at the back of my mind since childhood. And of course, I hope that all of you have found some enjoyment in my little endeavor as well.

On another note,

Stranger things 5 is here!! (Spoiler warning)

It feels like yesterday when the first season came out and took everyone by surprise. Even I, a notorious anti-hype villain, took the plunge and watched it when it was new. I was just about to turn seventeen, so I was in my most “I only enjoy niche things YOU don’t know about,” phase, which of course is insufferable. Glad I watched it.

I really like the turn Will’s character took. With the DnD influences and all I think he’s now a modern equivalent of a warlock, him having Vecna-esque powers, even though Mike states that he’s a sorcerer. (I’m pretty sure warlocks as a class didn’t exist back then so that might explain the lack of mention). I was sure as shit that Will was going to die this season, but I’m glad he’s not done so yet. I still hold on to my theory, but we’ll see what happens.

Also, Eight is back! I’m glad they’re doing something with her character seeing as she’s been in only one episode back in season two. (If you don’t count flashbacks and the intro in season two episode 1.)

Then there are the Wheeler parents. Man was that a shocking episode… hope they make it.

There is also one other thing that started in 2016 which is ending this year, that being My Hero Academia. It’s had its ups and downs, but I’m happy with this final season. It’s been amazing, and I’m feeling a little melancholic now that the epilogue episodes are coming out.

I feel so OLD… something many of you probably do as well now that I’ve reminded you just how long ago these things started airing.

I’ll leave you with that depressing note, seeing as we’re STILL in November. Thank Baby Jesus December starts Monday and were on the home stretch.

Thank you, once again for reading. I’ll be returning next Saturday with the next block of book two. (Also also, I've still not made the PDF, I'm sorry.)

Bye bye now.
