January Yammering
Hello again Reader,
3-2 (i.e. book three chapter two, remember last post?), is here. Why has the ship stopped? Is something weird out there? Go find out in this week’s episode! *cough. I mean chapter! Not a long read, so go and enjoy!
Regarding the ancillary things like the PDF and other things regarding the blog. Sorry, I’ve been getting distracted. Also, health problems again, but don’t want to worry you too much with those.
I’ve started writing book four, yay! And without going in to spoilers, the vehicle theme from book three will continue, though not at sea, (whatever could that mean?). You’ll have to wait and see. And waiting is the name of the game for us all.
Stream Of Thought:
Some of us wait for summer, some of us for work, (like me), and some of you for new chapters of the BEST WEB NOVEL OUT THERE (tee-hee). January has felt like one long wait for me. Everyone else has run off to work after the holidays, while I just sit here, nervously glancing at my phone, expecting a call from the company.
I’m not complaining; I’ve gotten a lot of writing done, but not as much as I should like, and in the interim I’ve furthered my Latin studies. Checking my writer tracker, I’ve cranked out only 20105 words this month. I feel like they don’t count. Barely 3000 of them are from the Limbo Chronologies, while the rest are a mix of the novella I shat out, (it was supposed to be a short story), blog posts, a short story, and my personal vision text, (no, I shall NOT elaborate on that).
The thing is, I’ve neglected a lot of editing work. I’ve been focusing mostly on the writing part of writing and severely neglecting the rewriting part. And man has rewriting been calling to me recently. Specifically, my novel, (and some of my short stories). As I write TLC, the shadow of my first baby whispers from the corner of my mind, enticing me to wade through the pages and fix the mistakes I know are there. To make changes, to cut chapters, alter storylines, add and subtract…
I think the time is coming soon that I’m going to return to that project. (I think it’s been over six months since I touched it). Once I do, it’ll take up a lot of my hours, and the Chronologies will be left on the backburner for a time.
That, and I need to really hone out my query letter and pitch for the book. It’s really hard. I don’t have a second set of eyes to tell me what’s good and bad about it. I can’t really get anyone to read it. I don’t really have anyone in my life who would like to. Most of the people in my life aren’t readers or writers. So, yeah.
Also, as of today I’ve only received rejections. From the 45 queries I’ve sent, 35 have been rejected, 9 are outstanding, and one was a partial request followed by a rejection. So, a little disheartening. Especially when I don’t get any feedback on the letters themselves, usually just a formal, probably automated, rejection. I’m also beginning to suspect the use of AI in some places…
But, that’s enough of that. Go on and read the new chapter! I hope you enjoy.
I’ll see you next Saturday.
