Book Three Baby
Hello again Reader,
Apologies for the short post today. I’m under a bit of a mid-contract-malaise. Not that anything untoward has happened aboard, far from it. I just find myself a little glum. A gloominess that has become a negative feedback loop of: while working the will to write burns because I didn’t write enough the previous day – get off work; get slapped in the face by fatigue – don’t write enough / good enough per my personal standards – get a little down because of it – go to work again – go to sleep; sleep bad – back to work – cycle repeats.
With each cycle I inch closer to almost not writing at all. Sometimes it feels like I’m forcing it. And we all know forcing something doesn’t make for good outcomes. Still, I’m an advocate for keeping up a skill daily, even if it’s with the smallest thing. On Thursday, for instance, I reread one of my novella/short stories which has lingered as a first draft for quite some time. It is very Lovecraft-esque considering the narration is by an outside investigator looking in and reporting on something curious that has happened, only to be sucked in during the final two paragraphs. It’s made up of diary entries, scavenged letters, paraphrased conversations and hearsay from all and sundry.
It was a fun story to write. If I recall, I wrote it last summer while I was on another contract, though I finished it once I got home. It’s not very long. Only about 8000 words. Though I’m planning on expanding it a little and fixing some glaring mistakes. It’s a good and entertaining story. (Maybe I'll post it here some day).
Today I’m also giving you the last chapter of book three, in which the party will be entering the bridge of the mysterious Optima. What will they find; what will they learn? And how, you ask, will this play a part in the wider scheme of things?
That remains to be seen.
Thank you, dear reader, for once again giving me your time. Your silent support means more than you can imagine. We’re entering Gdansk today, so I’ll probably be stretching my watch, so yours truly will have quite dark eyes come tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.
See you next Saturday.
