Book Four

Hello again Reader,

WE ARE HERE! Book four has begun and there is also a little secret once again hidden somewhere in the links. Hint: + and -

As before, Book three has been relegated to the table of contents, and Book four is on the sidebar for ease-of-access. But for you, my dear reader, here’s a link to Chapter 1 of book four.

The party has made it to, and out of, Roma Prima, (huh?), and are on their way to the Alps! Also, as always, weird things happen to our cast of characters. This time, specifically, Jaques. (Go and read to find out). And Buddy decides to share the whispered myth of the Conclave’s origin with everyone, much to Rousseau’s displeasure.

On the Conclave (SPOILER ALERT!)

The Conclave, as an idea, came to me in bits and spits while going about mundane tasks. Say, filing taxes, fiddling with the post when an order goes missing, or during long and boring Teams lectures or meetings.

To me, the most horrifying things in the world are bureaucrats. So, how could I make bureaucrats even more horrifying? Answer: by having them be stuck in an eternal meeting where they discuss metrics and numbers. Where they are eternally locked in a scrutiny of an ever-developing and changing fine print that the quickest can take advantage of. Where they employ criminal syndicates loosely affiliated with them to carry out their grimy tasks. Where they’ve spent so long that they’ve lost their humanity.

The Conclave is a mastermind council, from which there is no escape. *shudder*

I also find it a hilariously ironic and a unique hell for people who are power-hungry. Instead of basking in their accrued wealth and misusing their standing, their heads are eternally locked in a game of wits to leverage the best possible outcome for oneself and protect ones own interests.

That’s not to say the Conclave always bickers. They’ve been in one mind before. For example: the purchase of Neo-Ur, for whatever reason…

Anyway, go enjoy book four!

Thank you, once again for reading. I’ll see you next Saturday with 4-2.
