Project Update: Steady as she goes

Time for another post!

Welcome, you faceless reader! You’ve probably noticed chapter two in the sidebar. Perhaps you’ve already read it. Perhaps you enjoyed it.

I just finished part two’s third chapter’s first draft, (what a mouthful), and I find myself in a weird spot.

Personal

Now that I’ve taken it upon myself to start this Blog and to post at least semi-regularly, I feel as though an element of carelessness regarding the story has been stymied. That’s not to say that I’m careless, or that I don’t take my writing seriously. Rather, I feel as though my headspace is different when writing part two, compared to when I was writing part one.

In a way, I’ve gone against the ‘writing with the door closed,’ modality, as Stephen King puts it. The thought of everything I write being, not for me personally, but for everyone, does something to the wrinkly fleshy bits in my noggin. That is something that should only be reserved for third, fourth or the nth draft, when all the ironing out has been done, and at least a few eyes have gone through it. I’ll strive to remember that, for now at least, part two is only for me.

Also, a heavy helping of schoolwork continues to pile away in the sideline, eagerly slavering to devour my meagre supply of time. Simulations are also coming up starting at the end of the month and will take up massive slots of time from my days. (As a reminder I’m in maritime school). Also also, I need to start working on my thesis so that one day, (hopefully the summer or early fall of 26), I graduate.

Regardless, I write. Or at least I try. Last week I was struck by either a mild, but persistent, flu, or I was piledriven by burnout. I was OUT of it. Fatigue weighed on me from morning to evening, and sleep didn’t help, and every muscle in my body was tight and aching. (An unprecedented wave of heat and ninety percent humidity readings don’t help).

But now I’m back at it in full force, sipping on electrolytes and chain using Zyns.

The Chronologies

I’m looking to post chapter three either by the end of next week, or early the week after. It’s a whopper that opens up the world a bit more. I want to give it the editing time it deserves. Also, writing part two concurrently as I edit part one is a good way to remind myself of details I’ve already given, or have left to be fleshed out later on.

If you’ve anything to say regarding the chapters already out, please, comment on the posts! (Reflecting on this now, I really should open some email or a forum page for feedback).

I’ll keep this short in the spirit of my original plans of making these posts a development log.

Writing and Me

Writing is hard. Even now, as I type into this blank docx file, I struggle to come up with the proper words to describe just how hard it is. It becomes far more difficult, at least for me, when writing something like this, instead of prose. (This being the main reason why I’ve put off doing another blog post, even though I chide myself in doing so). That is not to say that I didn’t have difficulties in writing fiction a few years back. Those difficulties came, not from language, but from a skewed mindset on how to embark on projects, and how to write fiction in general. So, as I work on part two of The Limbo Chronologies, and edit part one, I thought about sharing what helps me, and how I go about things. I’ll start with telling you about my routine.
