Project Update & Plans for the future

Hello again Reader,

I apologize for not giving a project update last week. For personal/health reasons the entire calendar week from Monday to Sunday was quite tough, and I was only able to get chapter five ready for you and release it.

BUT!

Once again the time has arrived for me to grace the screen of your little pocket and/or desktop PC. And I’m excited because today is DOUBLE RELEASE DAY! Which is not a thing (yet), but you get the gist. Chapter six is out and ready for you to read, and in even bigger news: THE ZERO* DRAFT OF BOOK TWO IS FINISHED, coming in at around 30k words and nine chapters. (Queue pyrotechnics).

Forgive me for my all caps overindulgence, I just lack the words to properly describe how excited I am.

Just to clarify, book two is not a separate novel, but instead the second arc of the Chronologies. So, don’t be surprised when at some point, as I start releasing the chapters, the first chapter of book two will be chapter 7, the second 8, and so on.

Now to address the term “zero” I used when mentioning the draft. Remember when I talked about how ideas are like zip files in your brain you need to parse through? Well, though I’ve used the term “first draft” often, I usually privately categorize the very first draft of any of my works as a zero draft. By this I mean that it is the crudest and most vulgar version of the story I want to tell. Raw and sloppy. Meant to outline the story beats as they are extracted from that cognitive file and so it’s often a little messy.

It becomes the first draft once I’ve reoriented some plot points and rearranged some scenes to be more cohesive and structured. (No larger rewrites, see). Then it gets its rest period, which is followed by the second draft, during which massive rewrites occur.

So, what’s next?

For the time being, the chapters will remain on the sidebar as they have been since I started releasing them, so you can easily find them and read the one you’re currently on. However, my plan is to make book 1 it’s own page that will work as a sort of table of contents, from where you’ll have links to each chapter. This will be done once book two starts releasing. Also, I’ll add chapter links to previous and next chapters within the chapters themselves for ease of navigation, which I should’ve done earlier. (An oversight on my part).

I’ll build upon this cascading style until the entire novel is finished, with the most recent book having center stage on the sidebar as the story goes on.

I also plan to release a PDF of the first draft formatted for ease of read for you to download during the coming weeks. Also, possibly, an EPUB for you e-reader users out there.

The second draft period is still a long way’s off, and I’ve yet to decide if I should update each chapter page once done or just archive them and give an updated PDF download. In any case, the first drafts will remain on the site in the form of their original uploaded PDF files.

A long-long term goal, as I’ve stated before, is the complete novel downloadable as a PDF and/or EPUB, with an option to buy it online. It will always be free to read, so don’t worry.

Thank you.

I’ll keep this post brief but expect longer ones during the coming weeks. I intend to let book 2 simmer for some time before returning to it with fresh eyes. During this time work will start on book 3.

To those of you who have read every chapter, and like the story so far, who check in daily to see if I’ve posted anything, I say: thank you. Though I try to stay away from the metrics page on the creator dashboard, I do peek in there every now and again. I see you there, as but numbers. And as much as I’d like to have names and faces to said numbers, I rest content knowing that they represent you.

I’ll see you next Saturday, hopefully with updates on the plan I mentioned in a previous post.

Follow the page and share with your friends, we'll see each other soon!
